Overview

Replication protein A2 pseudogene 2 (RPA2P2) is a human pseudogene derived from the parental gene Replication protein A2 (RPA2), which encodes a component of the heterotrimeric replication protein A complex involved in DNA replication, repair, recombination, and the DNA damage response. As a pseudogene, RPA2P2 itself does not encode a functional protein due to mutations or genomic rearrangements that inactivate essential coding or regulatory regions. However, as with many pseudogenes, RPA2P2 may play a regulatory role at the DNA or RNA level, potentially influencing the expression or function of the parental RPA2 gene through sequence exchange, antisense RNA, or acting as a decoy for microRNAs and RNA-binding proteins. There are no reports of RPA2P2 serving as a direct disease biomarker or therapeutic target, but pseudogenes are recognized for their possible involvement in disease mechanisms by modulating the genome or transcriptome, especially in cancer and genomic instability.
