Replication protein A2 pseudogene 3 (RPA2P3) is a pseudogene related to the RPA2 gene, which encodes a core subunit of the Replication protein A (RPA) complex involved in DNA replication, DNA repair, and genomic stability[1][3][4]. By contrast, pseudogenes such as RPA2P3 originate from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and typically do not encode functional proteins because of accumulated disabling mutations or lack of regulatory elements[5]. Although some pseudogenes can exert regulatory effects (e.g., by acting as competing endogenous RNAs or influencing epigenetic states)[5], there is currently no evidence that RPA2P3 encodes a functional product or acts as a direct therapeutic target, nor are there known drugs, mechanisms of drug action, or biomarker associations specifically linked to RPA2P3. The RPA2 gene (not the pseudogene RPA2P3) is involved in important cellular processes such as DNA replication and repair, with some associations to cancer phenotypes through its protein's cellular role[1][3][4]. RPA2P3, however, is distinct from RPA2 and does not share its functional or therapeutic relevance. Pseudogenes can be misinterpreted as protein-coding genes or direct drug targets; in this case, RPA2P3 is not a canonical molecular target for therapeutics[5].
