Repulsive guidance molecule A (RGMa) is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored cell membrane protein and a member of the repulsive guidance molecule family. It acts as a chemorepellent to steer neuronal growth cones during neural development and also modulates immune cell migration. Dysregulation of RGMa is implicated in several CNS disorders, making it a potential therapeutic target for neurodegenerative diseases and injury recovery strategies. RGMa binds to neogenin and functions as a BMP co-receptor.
Inhibition of RGMa can enhance CNS repair/regeneration post-injury or disease insult. Blocks growth cone collapse and leukocyte migration.
