Overview

Required for meiotic nuclear division 5 homolog B (RMND5B) is an evolutionarily conserved protein encoded by the RMND5B gene, containing a zinc finger domain and functioning as a core component of the CTLH (C-terminal to LisH) E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complex. RMND5B is highly expressed in meiotically active tissues such as testis and ovary, and also in regions of the brain such as the hypothalamus. Its zinc finger domain enables nucleic acid binding, implicating a potential role in gene expression regulation during meiosis. RMND5B is involved in the selective ubiquitination of target proteins in cooperation with UBE2H, facilitating their degradation. Although no direct disease associations or drug targeting have been reported, RMND5B interacts with proteins implicated in tumor biology, such as EWSR1 and SMAD4. Its primary functional classification is as a ubiquitin ligase, contributing to protein homeostasis during meiosis and possibly other cell division processes.
