Resorbable collagen barrier membranes are medical biomaterials used in guided bone regeneration (GBR) procedures to exclude soft tissue cells (such as fibroblasts and epithelial cells) from invading bony defects while enabling selective repopulation and proliferation of osteogenic cells, supporting new bone formation. These membranes, typically made from purified type I or III collagen, provide a physical scaffold that is gradually resorbed by the body, eliminating the need for surgical removal. Collagen membranes are favored for their biocompatibility, biodegradability, and ability to act as carriers for growth factors to further enhance osteogenic differentiation and tissue integration.
