These ROS serve as vital signaling molecules for plant development and stress adaptation. Specifically, RsRbohF is a central mediator of programmed cell death (PCD) in xylem parenchyma cells, which contributes to the formation of 'pithiness'—a common physiological disorder in radish that results in a spongy, dry texture and reduces commercial viability [1]. Furthermore, RsRbohF is involved in responses to abiotic stressors like salinity, where its expression is modulated by transcription factors such as RsCAMTA11 to prevent excessive oxidative damage [2]. In the field of agricultural biotechnology, RsRbohF is targeted for genetic or chemical modulation to improve crop quality and resilience. While there are no established human therapeutic applications, laboratory inhibitors such as diphenyleneiodonium (DPI) and VAS2870 are standard tools used to study its role in plant signaling and oxidative stress [1, 2].
