Target intelligence / Profile preview
The target Respiratory syncytial virus and parainfluenza virus type 3 antigen-specific components of the human immune system refers to the specialized elements of the host's adaptive immune system, including B cells, T cells, and the antibodies they produce, which are capable of recognizing and neutralizing Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and Human Parainfluenza Virus Type 3 (HPIV3). RSV and HPIV3 are major causes of lower respiratory tract infections, such as bronchiolitis and pneumonia, particularly in infants, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. This target is primarily addressed by bivalent vaccines, such as the live-attenuated recombinant bovine/human parainfluenza virus type 3 (rB/HPIV3) vector expressing RSV fusion (F) protein (e.g., MEDI-534). These vaccines aim to elicit a protective immune response by stimulating the production of neutralizing antibodies and activating cellular immunity against both viruses. Monitoring efficacy typically involves measuring serum neutralizing antibody titers and assessing the reduction in viral shedding and clinical symptoms.
Vaccines stimulate these components to produce neutralizing antibodies and activate T-cell mediated immunity against both RSV and PIV3.
