Respiratory Syncytial Virus Attachment Glycoprotein G Subtype B (RSV G Subtype B)

Target
RSV G Subtype B
Molecular classification
Type II transmembrane glycoprotein, Attachment protein
01

Overview

The respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) attachment glycoprotein G subtype B is a major surface protein responsible for mediating the initial attachment of RSV subgroup B viruses to host cells. It is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein with a highly variable ectodomain. It acts as a neutralizing antigen and is considered a potential target for vaccine development. While not essential for infectivity (unlike F protein), its high variability allows it to evade immune detection more effectively. It exists in both membrane-bound and secreted forms; the secreted form can modulate immune responses.
