Overview

The Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) L-protein is a large, multifunctional enzyme essential for the replication and transcription of the RSV genome. It acts as the viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) and is responsible for several enzymatic activities required for viral RNA synthesis, including mRNA capping and methylation. The L-protein is considered an attractive antiviral drug target, and inhibitors targeting this protein have shown broad-spectrum activity against both major subtypes A & B. Resistance mutations often map to its capping enzyme domain.
