Respiratory Syncytial Virus M2-1 Protein (M2-1)

Target
M2-1
Molecular classification
Transcription factor
01

Overview

The M2-1 protein is an essential regulatory protein encoded by the human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). It functions primarily as a transcriptional processivity and antitermination factor within the viral RNA polymerase complex, enabling synthesis of full-length viral mRNAs. It forms a stable tetrameric assembly, and contains an N-terminal Cys3His1 zinc-finger motif essential for structural integrity and activity. It interacts with viral phosphoprotein P, nucleocapsid protein N, and matrix protein M.
