Target intelligence / Profile preview
Restores Yang (Hui Yang) is a fundamental therapeutic principle in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) rather than a specific molecular target such as a protein or receptor. It refers to the physiological process of rescuing the body from vital energy collapse, often manifested as severe hypothermia, shock, or heart failure [2, 4]. Modern pharmacological investigations demonstrate that interventions associated with this principle, most notably the herb Aconitum carmichaelii (Fuzi), exert their effects by targeting a network of biological systems, including the stimulation of the cardiovascular system via adrenergic receptors and the improvement of mitochondrial energy metabolism [4, 11]. Research indicates that 'Restoring Yang' correlates with the stabilization of myocardial calcium signaling through the modulation of ryanodine receptors (RyR2) and the enhancement of ATP production to reverse metabolic suppression [4, 8, 12]. Because it describes a systemic functional outcome involving multiple organs and signaling pathways, it represents an integrative physiological state rather than a discrete biochemical entity. Clinical use of therapies that Restore Yang requires rigorous oversight due to the narrow therapeutic index and potential for severe cardiotoxicity associated with key chemical constituents like aconitine [11].
Restores Yang involves the synergistic modulation of multiple biological pathways, including the activation of alpha- and beta-adrenergic receptors to increase cardiac output, the regulation of ryanodine receptor 2 (RyR2) and calcium signaling in cardiomyocytes, and the enhancement of mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation to restore cellular ATP levels and thermogenic capacity.
