Overview

Ret finger protein-like 2 (RFPL2, also known as RING finger protein 79 or RNF79) is a zinc finger protein with a predicted RING-like motif and B30-2 domain, mapped to human chromosome 22q12.2-q13.3[2][3][4]. It is a protein-coding gene and is part of the RFPL gene cluster (including RFPL1 and RFPL3). RFPL2 is predicted to function as a ubiquitin protein ligase and is involved in the regulation of gene expression, innate immune response, and is active primarily in the cytoplasm[3][8]. RFPL2 is highly expressed in the fetal neocortex and is believed to play a role in neocortex organization during development, as well as in other tissues such as the prostate[2]. Diseases associated with RFPL2 include certain forms of epilepsy and muscular dystrophy; however, direct therapeutic targeting or clinical drugs interacting with RFPL2 are not currently established[3].
