Reticuloendothelial System Macrophage (RES-macrophage)

Target
RES-macrophage
Molecular classification
Cell, Phagocyte, Immune cell
01

Overview

The reticuloendothelial system (RES), now more commonly referred to as the mononuclear phagocyte system (MPS), is a network of cells primarily involved in the clearance of foreign particles, cellular debris, and pathogens from the bloodstream and tissues. The key effector cells within this system are macrophages, which originate from blood monocytes that migrate into tissues and differentiate. They perform crucial roles in phagocytosis, antigen presentation, immune regulation, cytotoxicity, iron recycling, and tissue homeostasis.
