Overview

The retina is a multilayered, light-sensitive tissue lining the inner surface of the eye’s posterior segment, critically supported by the Retinal Pigment Epithelium (RPE) and Müller glial cells. These supporting structures maintain alignment of photoreceptors, ensure metabolic exchange, regulate the extracellular environment, and provide mechanical stability.
