Overview

Retinoblastoma associated transcript-1 (RBAT1, also called E2F3 intronic transcript 1 or E2F3-IT1) is a long non-coding RNA that originates from the intronic region of the E2F3 gene. Unlike protein-coding genes, RBAT1 does not code for a protein but acts at the RNA level to influence gene expression, particularly by modulating the activity of the retinoblastoma (RB1)/E2F pathway. Overexpression of RBAT1 has been reported in retinoblastoma and is associated with enhanced tumor cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, largely through its interaction with microRNAs and contribution to the oncogenic transformation of affected cells. It is one of several lncRNAs under study for mechanisms of oncogenesis and as a possible biomarker or future therapeutic target in cancers where the E2F/RB pathway is disrupted[1].
