Retinoblastoma binding protein 8 pseudogene 2 (RBBP8P2) is a noncoding pseudogene related to the functional RBBP8 gene, which encodes a nuclear protein involved in DNA repair, cell cycle checkpoint control, and tumor suppression. Unlike its parent gene, RBBP8P2 does not produce a functional protein and is not known to play a direct role in cellular or disease biology. Pseudogenes such as RBBP8P2 are generally regarded as nonfunctional genomic elements without protein products, though emerging research suggests some pseudogenes may exert regulatory effects through RNA, but no such function is described or established for RBBP8P2[11][5]. Key distinctions: The parent gene (RBBP8) is a protein-coding gene with important roles in DNA repair and cancer but is not the same as RBBP8P2, which is merely a pseudogene with no direct function[7][10]. No evidence supports RBBP8P2 as a protein, therapeutic target, biomarker, or disease gene in any clinical or preclinical research[5][11].
