Overview

Retinoic acid receptor-related orphan nuclear receptor gamma t (RORγt) is a transcription factor and a member of the nuclear receptor family, encoded by the RORC gene. It is an isoform of RORγ, primarily expressed in immune cells, especially T helper 17 (Th17) cells and certain innate lymphoid cells (ILC3s). It is essential for thymocyte survival during T cell development and acts as a master regulator for Th17 lineage specification, inducing the expression of signature cytokines such as IL-17A and IL-17F. RORγt is a central driver of autoimmune pathologies mediated by pathogenic Th17 responses and is considered an attractive drug target for autoimmune and inflammatory conditions.
