Retinoid X Receptor Gamma (RXRγ)

Target
RXRγ
Molecular classification
Nuclear hormone receptor, Transcription factor
01

Overview

Retinoid X receptor gamma (RXRγ), also known as NR2B3, is a member of the nuclear receptor superfamily that functions as a ligand-dependent transcription factor. It forms heterodimers with other nuclear receptors such as retinoic acid receptors (RARs), thyroid hormone receptors, vitamin D receptors, and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs). RXRγ is primarily expressed in the brain and muscle, and plays critical roles in energy metabolism, anti-inflammation, skin health, immune function, and vision maintenance. Genetic variants have been associated with metabolic disorders and potentially cancer progression. It is activated by 9-cis-retinoic acid.
