Overview

Retinol dehydrogenase 10 is an NADP-dependent oxidoreductase that catalyzes the conversion of all-trans-retinol into all-trans-retinal, a critical step in retinoic acid biosynthesis. Highly specific for all-trans-retinol, RDH10 is essential for embryogenesis, particularly for limb, craniofacial, and organ development, due to its role in producing retinoic acid. It is active mainly in the oxidation direction in vivo, and mutations can disrupt its function, leading to various congenital anomalies and retinal diseases[1][2][3][6].
