Overview

Retrotransposon Gag-like protein 6 (RTL6) is a human protein encoded by the RTL6 gene, which is a member of the Mart family derived from ancient retrotransposons. RTL6 has a predicted leucine zipper motif that may mediate nucleic acid binding, and is primarily localized to the nucleus and cytosol. It is expressed at high levels in many tissues and throughout development. Although RTL6 shows interactions with various proteins, and its expression can be downregulated in certain cancer cells upon chemotherapy treatment, its biological function and disease relevance remain poorly characterized. There are no known therapeutic drugs targeting RTL6, nor established biomarkers or safety concerns related to this target[1][3][6].
