RGMB antisense RNA 1 (RGMB-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand of the RGMB gene locus. It does not code for a protein but regulates key cancer-related processes at the gene expression level. RGMB-AS1 is implicated in the development and progression of multiple human cancers, including lung adenocarcinoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and cervical cancer. In lung adenocarcinoma and cervical cancer, high RGMB-AS1 expression promotes tumor proliferation, migration, and invasion, while in nasopharyngeal carcinoma, it appears to suppress malignancy when overexpressed. Mechanistically, it acts by sponging specific microRNAs (as a ceRNA) or by binding to proteins such as FOXA1, thereby impacting oncogenic and tumor-suppressor pathways, cell cycle progression, and the epithelial-mesenchymal transition. RGMB-AS1’s context-dependent expression and function suggest it may serve both as a potential biomarker and a therapeutic target in various cancer types[1][2][3].
