Rhinovirus transmission" refers to the process by which rhinovirus particles, primarily responsible for the common cold, are spread among individuals. Human rhinoviruses are transmitted through respiratory aerosols, droplets, contaminated surfaces (fomites), and direct person-to-person contact. The virus uses cell surface receptors such as ICAM-1, LDLR, and CDHR3 to infect respiratory epithelial cells. Environmental stability of the virus and its ability to remain infectious on surfaces for hours increase the likelihood of transmission. Transmission can be reduced by airborne precautions, hand washing, and disinfecting surfaces[1][4][5][6].
