Rho-associated coiled-coil containing protein kinase 2 (ROCK2) is a serine/threonine protein kinase that plays a central role in regulating the actin cytoskeleton, cell polarity, and smooth muscle contraction. It is one of two mammalian isoforms of Rho-associated kinases and acts as a major downstream effector for small GTPase RhoA, regulating several cellular processes including cytokinesis, smooth muscle contraction, and cell migration. ROCK2 is implicated in cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and atherosclerosis.
Inhibition of ROCK2 leading to reduced myosin light chain (MLC) phosphorylation and decreased actomyosin contractility.
