Rho GTPase activating protein 5 pseudogene (ENSG00000218586) is a genomic sequence related to the protein-coding ARHGAP5 gene but does not produce a functional protein product. Pseudogenes are generally non-coding DNA remnants, sometimes transcribed as RNA, and may play regulatory roles by acting as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) to sequester microRNAs and thereby influence the expression of their parent genes. While ARHGAP5 is a known regulator of Rho GTPase signaling and cytoskeletal dynamics, the pseudogene itself is not directly involved in these functions[1][4][7]. Current evidence on similar pseudogenes suggests possible involvement in cancer regulatory circuitry, but this is not specific to the ARHGAP5 pseudogene itself and requires further research[7]. The pseudogene is *not* considered a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, nor is it involved in direct signal transduction.
