Rhox homeobox family member 1 pseudogene 1 (RHOXF1P1), also known as TCONS_00017086, is a human pseudogene related to the Rhox homeobox transcription factor gene cluster. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but typically lack protein-coding capacity due to disabling mutations, such as frameshifts or premature stop codons[1]. While once described as "junk DNA," some pseudogenes are transcribed and can modulate gene expression, usually via RNA-mediated mechanisms such as competitive endogenous RNA activity[1][3]. The Rhox gene cluster consists of homeobox transcription factors important in reproduction, but RHOXF1P1 is a nonfunctional, pseudogenized member, and there is no evidence it is a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other canonical drug target[2][4]. There are no known drugs, disease associations, or direct safety concerns for RHOXF1P1 due to its pseudogenic and likely non-coding nature.
