Overview

Rhox homeobox family member 2B (RHOXF2B) is a protein-coding gene encoding a transcription factor of the paired-like homeobox family, highly expressed in testis and thought to play a crucial role in primate reproductive biology, specifically spermatogenesis and male germ cell differentiation[1][2][3][5]. RHOXF2B functions as a transcriptional repressor, modulating the expression of target genes involved in early stages of spermatogenesis and regulating other transcription factors such as RHOXF1 in a developmental cascade[2]. Beyond reproductive roles, RHOXF2B is also implicated in carcinogenesis, with overexpression linked to enhanced tumor cell growth and transformation in various cancers including colon, lung, and gastric cancers[1][2]. RHOXF2B and its paralog RHOXF2 are highly similar, differing at only two amino acids and often studied together as RHOXF2/2B[5]. There are currently no known drugs directly targeting RHOXF2B nor established biomarker or safety concern data specific to this gene.
