Overview

RIB43A domain with coiled-coils protein 2 (RIBC2) is a cytoskeletal protein classified as a microtubule inner protein (MIP), found as part of the dynein-decorated doublet microtubules in the cilia axoneme, where it plays a structural role in motile cilia and flagella[5][7]. It is implicated in flagellated sperm motility by contributing to the organization and stability of axonemal microtubules[5][7]. The function appears to be structural rather than catalytic or signaling, and while essential for proper axoneme function, there are no well-established drug interactions, biomarker roles, or disease associations for RIBC2[5][7][3]. RIBC2 is encoded by the RIBC2 gene (HGNC:13241, NCBI Gene:26150, Ensembl:ENSG00000128408) located on human chromosome 22[4][5]. It has several alternative names based on earlier gene annotations and paralogous relationships[5][3]. At present, the biological and medical literature does not support a direct relevance of RIBC2 as a drug target, clinical biomarker, or cause of human disease.
