Overview

Riboflavin, also known as vitamin B2, is a water-soluble vitamin essential for human health. It is a precursor to the coenzymes flavin mononucleotide (FMN) and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD), which are involved in energy metabolism, cell respiration, and antioxidant defense. Riboflavin also plays a role in the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins and helps maintain normal homocysteine levels. While generally safe, recent research suggests very high doses could promote tumorigenic progression under specific genetic contexts.
