Riboflavin-dependent Enzymes

Molecular classification
Enzyme, Oxidoreductase, Metabolic enzyme
01

Overview

Riboflavin-dependent enzymes are a class of enzymes that require riboflavin (vitamin B2) or its coenzymatic forms—flavin mononucleotide (FMN) and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD)—as essential cofactors for their catalytic activity. They play critical roles in redox reactions, energy metabolism, antioxidant defense, and the metabolism of other vitamins. Deficiency in riboflavin impairs these enzyme systems leading to disruptions in energy production, increased oxidative stress, and other metabolic imbalances.
