Overview

Ribonuclease A family member 10 (RNASE10) is a member of the mammalian ribonuclease A superfamily, but it is a non-canonical, catalytically inactive protein lacking the key residues required for ribonuclease (RNA degradation) activity. RNASE10 is primarily expressed in the proximal epididymis and is secreted into the lumen, where it appears to play a crucial role in post-testicular sperm maturation and male fertility. While many RNase A family proteins are enzymes with diverse functions ranging from host defense to angiogenesis, RNASE10’s known function is limited to the reproductive tract, and particularly male fertility, with no evidence for direct involvement in human disease outside of this context. No known drugs interact with RNASE10, and it is not established as a therapeutic target.
