Overview

Ribonuclease H1 pseudogene 1 (RNASEH1P1) is a non-functional segment of genomic DNA similar to the functional RNASEH1 gene. It does not encode a functional protein and is considered a pseudogene. The presence of RNASEH1P1 in the human genome reflects sequence similarity and evolutionary origin shared with the RNASEH1 gene, which encodes a ribonuclease involved in processing RNA-DNA hybrids during DNA replication and repair[2][4][6]. RNASEH1P1 itself is not known to participate in any biological process, disease, or therapeutic function. Important clarification: RNASEH1 (Ribonuclease H1), its protein product, and the associated lncRNA RNASEH1-AS1 are sometimes discussed in oncology and molecular biology contexts as active molecules, but RNASEH1P1 is specifically a pseudogene and should not be confused with the active ribonuclease. Any references to therapeutics, disease roles, or biological function for "RNASEH1" or "RNH1" refer to the protein-coding gene, not this pseudogene[2][6].
