Ribonuclease MRP subunit P24 (RMP24) is a protein component unique to the human RNase MRP ribonucleoprotein complex, an endoribonuclease involved in the maturation of precursor ribosomal RNA (pre-rRNA) within the nucleolus[1][2][6]. RMP24 is essential for ITS1 site 2 processing during rRNA maturation and stabilizes the catalytic RNA within RNase MRP[1][2]. This subunit is required for proper cell proliferation and associates directly with the MRP RNA, but is not involved in the function or formation of the related RNase P ribonucleoprotein[1]. RMP24 shares predicted structural similarity with specific yeast RNase MRP components but is distinct to metazoan RNase MRP complexes[1][2]. There are no currently known drugs or direct therapeutic applications targeting this protein subunit.
