Overview

Ribonucleoprotein PTB-binding 1 (RAVER1) is a widely expressed, multidomain RNA-binding protein that forms complexes with the polypyrimidine tract-binding protein (PTB/hnRNPI) and with the cytoskeletal proteins vinculin/metavinculin and α-actinin, localizing both to the nucleus and microfilament attachment sites[2]. RAVER1 modulates alternative RNA splicing by acting as a co-repressor with PTB, especially important in tissue-specific splicing regulation such as that of tropomyosin in smooth muscle[1][3][4]. Structurally, RAVER1 contains three RNA recognition motifs (RRMs) and interacts with both nuclear and cytoskeletal compartments, coordinating aspects of RNA processing and microfilament anchoring[2]. Recent studies highlight its roles in oncogenesis and tumor cell growth, possibly through effects on splicing regulation and RNA metabolism[4]. No drugs are currently known to target RAVER1, and it is not established as a direct therapeutic target or biomarker at this time.
