Ribonucleotide reductase M2 subunit (RRM2) is the small regulatory subunit of ribonucleotide reductase (RR), a key enzyme complex responsible for catalyzing the conversion of ribonucleotides to deoxyribonucleotides. This reaction provides the essential precursors for DNA synthesis, repair, and replication. Overexpression promotes tumorigenesis and correlates with poor prognosis. Inhibition or knockdown reduces tumor cell proliferation. Several inhibitors targeting RRM2 are under investigation as potential anticancer agents.
