Ribonucleotide reductase small subunit R2 (RRM2) is a crucial component of the ribonucleotide reductase (RNR) enzyme, which catalyzes the conversion of ribonucleotides to deoxyribonucleotides, essential precursors for DNA synthesis and repair. It contains a stable tyrosyl radical required for catalysis. RRM2 expression is tightly regulated during the cell cycle, and it is a key target for anticancer drugs like hydroxyurea.
