Overview

The ribosomal protein L10 pseudogene (ENSG00000277447) is a processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein L10 gene (RPL10). Pseudogenes are inactive DNA sequences that resemble functional genes but do not produce a functional protein. Human ribosomal protein genes, like RPL10, have many pseudogenes scattered throughout the genome, most of which arose by retrotransposition. These sequences share sequence similarity with their parent gene but are nonfunctional due to mutations such as frame disruptions. Although some pseudogenes can have regulatory roles, there is no evidence that RPL10 pseudogenes—including ENSG00000277447—participate in cellular processes or disease. Thus, it is not considered a molecular drug target, not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or functional protein
