Overview

RPL10P12 (Ribosomal protein L10 pseudogene 12) is a processed pseudogene located on chromosome 5 (chr5:84906994-84907266), derived as a retrocopy of the functional RPL10 gene. Pseudogenes are non-coding DNA sequences with high similarity to protein-coding genes but carry disabling mutations, preventing protein expression. RPL10P12 does not produce a functional protein nor participate in the assembly or function of ribosomes. Unlike its parent gene, RPL10, which encodes an essential ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis and disease, RPL10P12 is presently considered biologically inert, without known physiological roles or implications in human pathology, and is not considered a therapeutic target. If additional information emerges on a regulatory non-coding RNA function for RPL10P12 in disease, it may warrant re-evaluation. However, as of now, its entry is maintained for genomic annotation rather than therapeutic or functional purposes.
