Ribosomal protein L10 pseudogene 16 (RPL10P16) is one of many ribosomal protein pseudogenes found in the human genome[1][4]. These pseudogenes arose through retrotransposition events, where copies of mRNA from protein-coding genes were integrated back into the genome, losing their protein-coding potential. RPL10P16 shares high sequence similarity with the functional RPL10 gene but typically contains genetic disablements (such as stop codons, frameshift mutations, or truncations) that prevent it from encoding a functional protein. Pseudogenes like RPL10P16 do not produce proteins and are not considered therapeutic targets, receptors, enzymes, or transporters. They are useful in genomic studies for understanding genome evolution but have no recognized role in drug interactions, disease, or as biomarkers[4]. In summary, this entity is a non-functional pseudogene and not appropriate as a drug target.
