01

Overview

The Ribosomal Protein L12-L10 Complex is a crucial pentameric structure (L10(L12)_4) in the prokaryotic ribosome's large (50S) subunit. It functions as the ribosomal stalk, essential for recruiting translation elongation factors (EF-G, EF-Tu) and stimulating GTPase activity during protein synthesis. L10 anchors the stalk to the ribosome by binding to 23S rRNA. Disruption of this interaction impairs translation, making it a promising target for novel antibiotics, particularly against pathogens like Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The complex also autoregulates its own expression through feedback repression at the mRNA leader sequence.
