Overview

Ribosomal protein L12 pseudogene 1 (RPL12P1) is a pseudogene in humans. Although it shares sequence similarity with the functional RPL12 gene, it does not encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are non-functional; they may arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition. RPL12P1 is located on chromosome 6 and does not participate in the biological roles of the true RPL12 protein, which is a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis.
