Overview

Ribosomal protein L12 pseudogene 10 (RPL12P10) is a processed pseudogene derived from the functional ribosomal protein L12 gene (RPL12). It does not code for a functional protein and does not participate in ribosome assembly or function, nor is it known to have any direct biological function, disease association, or drug interaction. Pseudogenes like RPL12P10 are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are generally non-functional due to sequence disablements such as stop codons, frameshifts, or truncations; their primary significance is in reflecting gene evolution, retrotransposition events, and genome structure dynamics. As such, this entity is not considered a therapeutic target and lacks relevance as a biomarker, drug target, or functional gene. RPL12P10 should not be confused with the functional ribosomal protein L12 gene (RPL12), which is a core component of the 60S ribosomal subunit and involved in protein synthesis. The use of "pseudogene" in the name indicates its lack of protein coding and functional roles in cellular biology. Pseudogenes are neither targets for drugs nor implicated in physiological or pathological processes in the same way that protein-coding genes can be.
