RPL12 itself encodes a structural protein of the large (60S) ribosomal subunit, essential for protein synthesis. Pseudogenes like RPL12P14 are widespread for ribosomal protein genes but are generally not transcribed or translated, and they do not participate in cellular processes relevant to therapy or drug targeting[3][11][8].
