RPL12P25 itself does not code for a protein and has no known biological function, clinical relevance, or involvement in disease. There are many ribosomal pseudogenes across the genome, originating from the high copy number and expression of ribosomal protein genes[1][8]. The RPL12P25 entry should not be conflated with the functional ribosomal protein L12 gene (RPL12), which is involved in translational processes[5][3]. The gene in question is a pseudogene—it does not code for a functional protein, is not a therapeutic target, and has no defined role in human biology or disease[1][8]. It is important not to confuse this with RPL12, which is the functional ribosomal protein.
