Overview

Ribosomal protein L12 pseudogene 4 (RPL12P4) is a processed pseudogene corresponding to the ribosomal protein L12 gene. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences similar to known genes but typically non-functional; they arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and do not encode active protein products. RPL12P4 is not translated, has no known direct biological activity, and is not a therapeutic target or disease marker. The functional counterpart, ribosomal protein L12, is a component of the large 60S subunit of the ribosome and participates in protein synthesis, but the pseudogene does not perform this role. Pseudogenes such as RPL12P4 are common in eukaryotic genomes and may occasionally have regulatory or evolutionary significance, but the vast majority are non-coding and do not give rise to proteins. No disease association, drug interaction, or mechanism of action is documented for ribosomal protein L12 pseudogene 4, and it is not a known biomarker or therapeutic safety concern.
