Ribosomal protein L12 pseudogene 42 (RPL12P42) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome. It is a non-functional genomic sequence related by homology to the ribosomal protein L12 gene (RPL12), which encodes a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis. Pseudogenes like RPL12P42 do not produce functional proteins and are generally regarded as "genomic fossils" without current biological or therapeutic relevance. They are present as a result of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and are dispersed throughout the genome.
