Overview

Ribosomal protein L12 pseudogene 46 (RPL12P46) is a processed pseudogene that is derived from the functional RPL12 gene, which encodes a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis. However, as a pseudogene, RPL12P46 does not encode a functional protein product and is not known to exert any direct biological or therapeutic effect. There is currently no evidence linking this pseudogene to any disease, drug interactions, or clinical utility. As with other ribosomal protein pseudogenes, it may be transcribed in some cellular contexts, but its function—if any—remains uncharacterized. RPL12P46 is one of many ribosomal protein pseudogenes found throughout the genome. Such pseudogenes are generally classified as "non-targets" in therapeutic research because they are non-coding and do not produce an active protein product that could be modulated by drugs or serve as diagnostic markers. Functional studies and therapeutic roles are relevant only for the canonical (active) ribosomal protein L12 gene and its protein, not its pseudogenes. This entry is not considered a therapeutic target, and there is no evidence supporting its role in drug action, disease, or clinical biomarker utility. There is also no evidence of RPL12P46 being misspelled, but its inclusion as a "target" is not correct according to standard biomedical conventions.
