The RPL12P49 locus itself does not produce a functional protein and is not considered a true biological target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter. It is a processed pseudogene that does not encode any protein and is one of several pseudogenes dispersed throughout the human genome derived from ribosomal protein genes.
