RPL12P50 is a processed pseudogene related to the functional ribosomal protein L12 (RPL12) gene. Pseudogenes such as RPL12P50 arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition events and generally lack coding potential for a functional protein. They are not transcribed or translated into active biological molecules. There is no evidence supporting any role for RPL12P50 in normal physiology, disease, or as a drug target. References to ribosomal protein L12 pseudogenes in the genome generally indicate segments of DNA with high sequence similarity to the functional ribosomal protein L12 gene, but which do not produce functional protein products. There is no reported association of RPL12P50 with disease, drug interaction, or clinical utility[5][1][2]. The functional gene, RPL12, codes for a structural component of the 60S ribosomal subunit, essential for protein synthesis, but its pseudogenes—including RPL12P50—are typically non-expressed and biologically inactive fragments dispersed throughout the human genome[1][2][5].
