Ribosomal protein L13 pseudogene 5 (RPL13P5) is classified as a processed pseudogene in the human genome. It is a non-coding DNA sequence that originated from the RPL13 gene, which encodes a structural protein of the 60S ribosomal subunit. RPL13P5 has no protein product, biological activity, or known involvement in human disease or drug response. Processed pseudogenes such as RPL13P5 arise through retrotransposition events, in which mRNA is reverse-transcribed and inserted back into the genome, typically without regulatory elements needed for expression. RPL13 pseudogenes are common in the human genome, part of a large pool of ribosomal protein pseudogenes resulting from evolutionary genomic rearrangement. The RPL13P5 locus does not produce functional protein, is not involved in signaling, transport, or transcription, and has no known pharmacological or diagnostic relevance. In summary, RPL13P5 is a pseudogene with no therapeutic, diagnostic, or biological function, appropriately classified as ‘other’ in molecular family and not a target for drugs or biomarkers.
