Ribosomal protein L13 pseudogene 8 (RPL13P8) is a non-coding pseudogene that arose from the retrotransposition or genomic rearrangement of the functional ribosomal protein L13 gene[5][6][7][9]. It is present in the human genome but lacks the ability to encode a functional protein. There are many such ribosomal protein pseudogenes dispersed throughout the genome, and RPL13P8 is one of several derived from the parent RPL13 gene[6][9]. No evidence exists that RPL13P8 acts as a therapeutic target, encodes a functional protein, or plays a direct role in disease biology. Thus, it is not considered a molecular target in translational medicine or drug discovery. *Note: The parent gene, ribosomal protein L13 (RPL13), encodes a structural component of the large ribosomal subunit and has numerous pseudogenes like RPL13P8; however, pseudogenes such as RPL13P8 do not produce the ribosomal protein and are mostly considered evolutionary remnants[5][6][7][9].*
